Michael's Battalion, simply known as The Battalion, is a centuries old collective of humans that were brought to help maintain order against demons and keep them from taking full control. The Men of Letters had a connection with this group in the past.

The Battalion have connections through the church and even in world governments. Their numbers and influence dwindled with the passing centuries due to loss of heart and disbelief in both demons and their purpose but they have recently been swelling in ranks in the wake of the growing chaos brought forth by the Apocalypse, Civil War of Heaven and The Fall. The Powers have allied with these humans to help in restoring order to both Heaven and Earth.

Biography[]

During the Dark Ages there was a great influx of demons that appeared and were the driving forces behind disasters of the time like the Crusades, The Bubonic Plague, and heavy witch activity. Since God decreed that angels couldn't directly aid Humanity Michael and the Powers decided to indirectly aid a select group of humans in the matters of fighting and sealing demons away to neutralize the threat. In gratitude and to honor what they had been bestowed the humans decided to call their order Michael's Battalion. A secret center was set up in Rome where these humans learned and trained to use what Michael and the Powers showed them. It was through the tutelage they gave that the Battalion created protection amulets bearing Michael's own symbol as a channel to protect themselves as well as power a strong enochian exorcism spell. This spell was strong enough to seal demons in the deepest parts of Hell where escape and liberation were all but impossible save for opening a Devil's Gate. Amongst the demons that the Battalion had banished were the Seven Deadly Sins, Samhain and Astaroth.

However, with the demons for the most part quelled and new advancements of the time their activities and members dwindled. As a result of their dwindling number, the amount of Hunters in the world seemed to increase. With their work done, contact between the angels and the Battalion also became very minimal though there were a few visits from time to time. One such time was to present the Battalion with the Holy Grail to secure and hide it should the time come when it may be needed. With immigration and travel into the New World, the Battalion decided to try and store and safeguard their knowledge from anyone that might take advantage of what they were taught.

Pavilion

The Paradise Pavilion

The Paradise Pavilion in Florida was one attempt at a safehouse for it. The Pavilion was built with every anti-demon precaution and protocol known to man such as salt combined with the paint and holy water mixed in with the cement. It worked for a time but then tourism began increasing in the area and it was soon felt that it was no longer as secure from espionage. Eventually, a more out of the way and underground safehouse was desired and was built in the Lebanon, Kansas area where it was put in the jurisdiction of the Men of Letters. The Pavilion instead was fashioned to be the orders safehouse and operational hub for their members in America. More dedicated members used this place to train themselves to fight against demons and forge anti-demon tools here. After the events following the Fall, the Powers began to utilize it as their official base.

The Battalion itself kept lacking in number due to its members failing to pass the tradition down in their families and not bring too many new people into the fold. With such an influx of Hunters many of the members felt that they weren't needed much anymore. It wouldn't be until roughly 2010 when their former might started returning due to the machinations and determination of Daniel Leonard. As their numbers and connections within the government grew, such as with the FBI and even the military, they were able to begin to establish their own information and recruitment network.

After the battle at the Paradise Pavilion where Dean Winchester had killed several members, notably Logan Donovan, with The First Blade, Victor Morales began a separate and private movement to strike back at the Winchesters as well as crack down on the chaotic machinations of the Hunter Community. He organized a meeting with some hunters and offered lawful amnesty, as well as use of their expanding resources and information, in return for the hunters to limit themselves into tracking and hunting down only monsters and leaving affairs relating to Heaven and Hell to the Battalion. He also enlisted their assistance in finding and isolating the Winchesters. Over time, some hunters such as Jeremy Cates, began to warm to the alliance while others like Jodi Mills kept resisting to side with Sam and Dean.

The current incarnation of the Battalion faced their first real challenge when they came up against the new 'King of the Crossroads', the demon Beelzebub. With the death of Battalion scouts in the same general vicinity of an Ohio town, Victor Morales, Riley Ackerman, Judice Parker and two others had arrived to investigate. They found signs that indicated demons in town and they discovered that crossroad deals had recently been made. Tracking one of the dealmakers down, the battalion soon came under attack from the people that had made the deals. Losing a member in subduing them, they learned that crossroad deals had changed to include a clause that said that if the demon who made the deal was exorcised to Hell or killed, then all the deals they made would come due instantly. Victor moved to find the demon and banish them to Hell regardless and they found the crossroad demon, eventually banishing him to Hell and hellhounds had indeed come to collect on all of his deals. They tried to save the victims from the hellhounds but failed. Beelzebub then arrived to make his presence known and warned them to stay out of his business but Victor refused. They tried to bring him down but the demon went and killed through their numbers, one of them being Riley, leaving only Victor and Judice alive. The new Crossroad King told Victor that this was just a preview of choosing to make an enemy of him before disappearing.

Equipment[]

The Battalion began using special tools and weapons that were passed down from previous generations of this order or improvised and improved by the angels. Talismans and amulets that the Battalion created due to the teachings of Michael and the Powers. There were also some creative defenses that were devised by individual members to assist in fighting against demons. One such example was a member that was diabetic and had his insulin blessed in order to consecrate his blood and skin against demons.

Leather cuff of michael s battalion by epreader-d8ne8aq

A Leather cuff of the Battalion

  • Protection Cuffs: Most of the members could be identified by the leather cuffs they wear that bear the crest of the Battalion, Michael's symbol, on it that they use for both protection and combat against demons. Inside the inner lining of the cuffs are lines of carved runes and enochian sigils that grant it a small compendium of powers.
    • Demonic Warding: The cuffs allow any person wearing them immunity from demons moving to possess them. Should a demon try, they would be blocked and their smoke form would be repelled away. Demons who come into direct contact with the cuffs begin to burn and are repelled off in a similar fashion to holy water.
    • Super Exorcism Conductor: There is an enochian exorcism spell that is much shorter and stronger than the standard latin exorcism spell. The cuffs allow the human using it to channel the energy from their own soul to use it to send a demon to Hell and be bound there. They would not be able to leave without powerful aid such as opening a Devil's Gate or being unbound by a very powerful being such as an Archangel or the Ruler of Hell.
    • Consecration: The wearer is able to bless any small amount of water and turn it into Holy Water.
    • Demonic Cloaking: The cuffs allow the humans wearing them to be hidden and cloaked from demons so they can't find them by demonic or magical means.
  • Holy Fire Bullets: The Battalion have found a way to make common bullets more effective against both demons and angels by blessing them in holy fire. These bullets won't kill any demon or angel shot with them but will stun and incapacitate them to a certain degree, leaving them vulnerable to be exorcised, captured or even killed depending on how many make contact and where, along with that demon or angel's power and tolerance against them. They are less effective against higher angels and demons than lower ones.
  • Holy Fire Spectacles: Glasses that had their lenses blessed by holy fire which give their wearers the ability to see Hellhounds and other marks or traces from Hell that are invisible to the naked eye. The idea was originally from Sam and Dean but had been given to the Battalion by Kevin Tran. Now its a custom part of their overall arsenal.

Known Members[]

It is unknown just how many members are truly in the Battalion as the duties are split from being active soldiers, to scouts, informants, or researchers. Daniel Leonard had even told Kevin Tran that the Battalion had connections through the church and that the Men of Letters were a loose connection to the Battalion as well. Not only that but the Battalion is spread across the globe and its only in recent years that their numbers have begun to flourish. Here are some members that have been seen and indentified so far.
